New College & Career Readiness Pathways

The foundation of a world-class education in Maryland under The Blueprint for Maryland's Future for education will require an instructional system that is benchmarked to world-class standards and fully aligned from prekindergarten through 12th grade to a college and career readiness standard, highly competitive college preparatory programs; credit-bearing early college programs, career and technical education programs with opportunities for science-based agriculture education, and pathways for students who do not achieve the college and career readiness standard by the end of 10th grade.

Blueprint-Funded Career and College Readiness Initiatives

9th Grade Progress Tracker

The Blueprint requires local school systems to begin tracking 9th graders' progress to graduation, credit accumulation, and course passage. This is a data-driven approach to student progress monitoring.

Career and Technical Innovation Grant Program

The Blueprint creates the CTE Innovation Grant Program to provide $2 million annually to support partnerships between at least one local board of education, one community college, and an industry partner to develop and implement innovating CTE curriculum framework and pathways based on domestic and international best practices.

New College and Career Readiness Standard

The Blueprint requires the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) to study the current college and career readiness (CCR) standard, and develop and communicate to stakeholders a new CCR standard for students to achieve by the end of 10th grade.

Career Counseling for Middle and High Schoolers

The Blueprint requires schools to provide individualized career advising to every student, regardless of whether they're enrolled in a post-CCR pathway, and provides per pupil funding to support counseling offerings.
