Overview  

Strong Schools Maryland is looking for a passionate, strategic person who excels at building value-rooted relationships with diverse communities to join our organizing team as a Local Organizer. The Local Organizer is responsible for the management and development of local leaders in the implementation of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. This role works in close collaboration with the Lead Organizer and reports to the Executive Director.

Areas of Responsibility

  •  Contribute to the development of and execute local strategies to achieve goals outlined in the Strong Schools Maryland organizing plan 

  •  Manage the community-level relational recruitment and retention of specific education stakeholders in the Teams of 10 Network 

  •  Develop, in collaboration with the Lead Organizer and Communications Specialist, the content knowledge and organizing and advocacy capacity of Teams through regularly scheduled and special convenings 

  •  Monitor and utilize relevant current events in Blueprint implementation and education issues at the local level to support Teams and advance organizational objectives ● Partner with local value-aligned groups to host public information and action events related to our organizational objectives 

  •  Compile, track, analyze, and internally report data related to local engagement and goal progress 

  •  Occasionally direct interns and fellows to achieve organizational objectives ● Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by the Executive Director 

 

Primary Qualifications

 

  • Can travel legally and independently around the state 

  • Comfort in utilizing Google Workspace products 

  • Graduate, employee, or other primary stakeholder in a Maryland public school 

  • Results-oriented, has will to persevere in spite of systemic challenges 

  • Critical lens, strong analytic, written, and oral advocacy skills 

  • Creative, intrinsically motivated to ask questions and articulate inconsistencies 

  • Stellar project management skills, anticipates obstacles, identifies and involves stakeholders appropriately, uses resources wisely 

  • Highly relational, with demonstrable skill to navigate discomfort honestly and maintain genuine relationships over time 

  • Demonstrable personal commitment to racial justice, educational equity, lifelong learning, and unlearning harmful ways of being in relationship with others

Secondary Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Urdu, or French 

  • Higher education credential 

  • Previous movement-building and/or campaign development experience 

  • Previous experience with organizing management tools, including volunteer management software and/or digital media programs 

  • Previous experience navigating local and/or state legislative and/or administrative policy processes

  • Salary: $55,000-$65,000 annually
