Strong Schools Maryland
Student Ambassador Collective

 

Strong Schools Maryland’s Student Ambassador Collective is a student-led group dedicated to advocating for fully-funded, equitable public schools in Maryland. The group, comprised of students from at across Maryland and grad-levels works together co-create #StrongSchools in their own communities, districts, and across Maryland. Student-leaders involved are driven and passionate about public education, equity, and overall student well-being and thriving. No prior knowledge of advocacy is needed - just your passion and energy!

*Student Ambassadors must be enrolled as a student full-time in high school and be able to commit to serving one academic year. Exceptions can be made based upon enrollment date and age based on parental permission.*

Objectives and Goals
 

What will we do
 

We know that as a busy student-leader your time is limited and valuable. As a Student Ambassador, we hope for you to contribute a few hours (or more!) per month as you are able. Throughout the year, the group’s tasks, projects, and campaigns may shift, however, education policy advocacy will your main focus as a Student Ambassador.

You will be expected to…

  • Outreach

    • Draft a testimonies, statements, and public comments on related education policy and why it is important to you and share it with Strong Schools Maryland and beyond.

    • Share your story with your State Representatives, Senators, and State Agency leaders.

  • Meetings

    • Attend a monthly hour check-in and planning meeting with your peer ambassadors and Strong Schools Maryland staff.

    • Attend other Strong Schools Maryland events as needed.

  • Virtual Presence

    • Ambassadors will regularly engage with social media platforms throughout the duration of the program. This includes sharing posts, attending webinars, and engaging in the Ambassador chat channel.

    • Contribute to other social media items such as posts, TikToks, and infographics as needed. 

  • Stay up-to-date

    • Read and respond as necessary to emails from Strong Schools Maryland. These may include anything from policy or communications updates to social media sharing to just plain fun and networking opportunities.

 

Other engagement, development, and leadership opportunities are available based upon members’ interest!

Beyond knowing that your time spent working to Strong Schools Maryland directly impacts the communities you reside in and is building a better, equitable education system, you also will gain:

  • Opportunity to add the Strong Schools Maryland Student Ambassador position and affiliation with Strong Schools Maryland, the largest education advocacy organization in Maryland, to your resume and LinkedIn.

  • Build capacity to lead and advocate for change within school communities and across the State. 

  • Access the knowledge, skills, and expertise of Strong Schools Maryland’s team who will share information, resources, and feedback.

  • Gain experience in a grassroots campaign to enact change at the State level, including in policy advocacy related to education, revenue, student well-being, equity, higher education, etc..

  • Engage with a broad professional network of experts, professionals, policymakers, peer student-leaders, and beyond.

How do I join?
 

We will be hosting our first intro call on Tuesday, September 23rd at 6:30pm via Zoom. Find out more about the program, ask questions, and sign up to participate at the meeting!
