Welcome back to The Report Card, Strong Schools Maryland’s 2023 Session Newsletter.
Although it does not always feel like the moral arc of the universe is bending toward justice, on Monday, we celebrated the life, work, and struggles of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. If you didn't get a chance to see that post, you can read it here.
Today we’re continuing that reflection on justice and highlighting some new leaders in the Maryland General Assembly; keeping you updated on what’s going on in Annapolis.
⏱️ LEGISLATIVE MINUTE
This week, we're shining our legislative spotlight on the formal announcement of Delegate Jheanelle Wilkins (left, Dist. 20) as the Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus.
We're also highlighting Senator Mary Washington (right, Dist. 43), who was elected to be the Caucus's Financial Secretary.
Chair Wilkins and Secretary Washington are the highest ranking Delegate and Senator on the Legislative Black Caucus's Executive Committee (respectively), and in 2020, Delegate Wilkins and Senator Washington were both recognized as Blueprint Champions!
We encourage you to connect with these legislators to let them know that you're working for World Class Schools if they represent your district.

📅 Drop-In Opportunities
This week, and every Monday at 10am and 4pm, you can hop on zoom with our Local Organizer, Maya, to prepare testimony for upcoming bill hearings. She'll provide guidance and talking points for Team Leaders and Team Members who want to testify in front of the General Assembly.
