The Report Card • Wednesday, January 25, 2023
Welcome back to The Report Card, Strong Schools Maryland’s 2023 Session Newsletter.
Governor Wes Moore and Lt. Governor Aruna Miller were inaugurated and sworn in last week, and the new governor submitted his budget proposal to lawmakers last Friday.
We are thrilled to see the Governor keeping his campaign promise to vigorously ensure that the Blueprint is a priority – and we're keeping our eye on how the Governor plans to work with legislators to fully-fund the Blueprint.
⏱️ LEGISLATIVE MINUTE
In the Senate, the Budget & Taxation Committee is tasked with matters of the Governor’s budget. In the house, these responsibilities fall to the Appropriations Committee. These committees are chaired by Senator Guy Guzzone and Delegate Ben Barnes, respectively.
Sen. Guzzone (Dist. 13) represents parts of Howard County, joining the senate in 2015 after serving 8 years in the House. As senator, Guy Guzzone was a member of the Early Childhood Education Action Group for Howard County from 2015 to 2017.
Del. Barnes (Dist. 21) represents portions of Anne Arundel and Prince George’s Counties, and has been a member of the House of Delegates since 2007, and previously served as the chair of Appropriations' Education & Economic development subcommittee.
We encourage you to connect with these legislators to let them know that you're working for World Class Schools if they represent your district.
