⏱️ LEGISLATIVE MINUTE

Del. Adrienne Jones, Speaker of the House

This week, as part of our Black History Month-centered Legislator Spotlights, we're lifting up The Honorable Madam Speaker, Delegate Adrienne Jones. Speaker Jones represents District 10, which includes parts of Baltimore County. Speaker Jones is the first Black speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates and also the first woman to hold the House's highest rank.

Speaker Jones has served in the House of Delegates since 1997 and has been a fierce advocate for public education (including being a vocal Blueprint champion!) ever since.

✅ This week, Strong Schools Maryland will be supporting Delegate Julie Palakovich-Carr's HB 337, The Investing in Marylanders Act of 2023. This bill seeks to generate additional revenue (via capital gains and other wealth taxes) which will help to keep the promise of fully-funding the Blueprint. The hearing will be held tomorrow, February 9th at 1:00pm

✅ We'll also be providing written testimony for HB 320, Delegates Michelle Guyton and Anne Kaiser's bill which will better enumerate the data on disability categories that Maryland students are living and learning with. That hearing is today at 1:00pm

✅ Finally, we will be providing written testimony for HB 306, Delegate Jheanelle Wilkins' bill which will add a school counselor to the Maryland Consortium on Coordinated Community Supports. That hearing is also today at 1:00pm
